RA Dickey VOS' Third 20-Game Winner

KNOXVILLE, TN. - New York Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey recorded his 20th win of the season on Thursday, becoming the first former Vol in 76 years and just the third Tennessee player ever to hit that single-season benchmark.   Dickey tied his career high with 13 strikeouts and scattered three runs on eight hits over 7.2 strong innings as the Mets defeated Pittsburgh, 6-5.     Just three years removed from being the Mets' first cut in spring training, Dickey was awash with emotion on the field after the game.

VOL REPORT: Play Like Men

With the Bulldogs starting a stretch of four consecutive games against ranked opponents for Tennessee, the Vols know it is time for them to grow up.   "This little stretch coming up in October is always our toughest stretch," senior linebacker Herman Lathers said. "We talk about it being our toughest stretch and that we need to bow up and play like men. It's going to be a tough stretch but we just have to come together and stay together."

VOL REPORT: MOVING ON

KNOXVILLE, TN University of Tennessee Sports - While there was a lot of pain and heartbreak in the Tennessee locker room on Saturday, the Vols didn't let that carry over to the practice field on Monday, putting the loss to Florida in the past and moving on.   "The [players] were gutted," Dooley said. "There was a lot of emotional investment in that game by the fans, by everybody associated with Tennessee. It hurt. I think it's a good sign that kind of pain is on us because we felt like we could go toe-to-toe and we did and we screwed it up.
